Good little MP3 November 11, 2008 Busy Mom (Fruita, CO) I bought this as my first MP3 player. I did the research and wanted one good for audiobooks. I'm not sure exactly how the bookmark works, but when I'm listening and turn it off, it saves where I was. I turn it back on and I'm at the same spot. I like that. Cons: it won't upload information. So, you can download to it, but you can't manage the info or change it through your computer. You can only add and delete. Say you have a list of songs and want to move one up higher in the list, you can't connect your Zen and do it that way. I've only found you have to make the changes to the playlist in the computer and re-upload the playlist to the Zen. It also doesn't have that much memory. If you want a lot of books or a few long books, you need more. But, other than that I've been happy with it. Oh, another thing. I bought some blue tooth headphones to have cordless. Well, it doesn't have an internal transmitter for that function so they don't work.
Great when it actually worked November 4, 2008 Yaya I originally purchased this product from a big box store in October '07, despite reviews saying that problems were common. I do a lot of commuting, so I planned to use it for music and audiobook files. I really liked the functionality of the product (simple to use, easy menus/navigation, easy importing) but the inconvenience of common breakdowns is not worth it. Luckily I purchased the service plan because I've had to put it to good use. Within the first month, it conked out. The store replaced it on the spot because I was within 30 days. Throughout the next 10 months it would often freeze (most noticably if I was fast-forwarding through a track) but came back to life after re-setting. In August '08 it completely froze; re-setting didn't help. I mailed it in for repair through my service contract, and the company sent me back a refurbished product. It worked fine for 6 weeks until the beginning of November, when it would freeze and display "Playback error" on the product's screen. Re-setting didn't help the problem, so I am once again sending it in. I will probably just buy a completely new product (from a different company!) but figured I may as well get this repaired since I've paid for the service.
Music worked fine, everything else not so much... October 26, 2008 David H (Nebraska)
This was my first MP3 player. Unfortunately didn't work out so well. I had no trouble initially getting songs on the player, the playlist feature worked well. Unfortunately, after about 20 uses, the sliding power/on off button came off. Because there's a tiny piece which connects inside the player, there was no way to reattach and have work --- so I had pay $30 plus shipping to send and have a new unit sent out. My second unit, I only maybe used a MAXIMUM of 10 times before the screen went black. I was able to remember how to "navigate in the dark" to get to my playlists, but obviously not very ideal. In lieu of sending back a third time, I cut my losses and purchased another brand. I had no problem with the sound quality or ease of use of this player -- actually my new player's sound isn't quite as good as this was. Based on my own experience, I can't recommend this player.
good product overall October 19, 2008 H. DINA (SAINT LOUIS, MO USA) This is good if you're looking for a player with not a lot of space to store files or view videos. The only problem I've run into is that sometimes it stops playing for a second or two for no apparent reason. Overall, I like Creative products and I like them much better than IPods. They are a little less expensive, and you don't have to worry about music rights attached to music files that prohibit the number of times a music file is transferred.
Disposible PMP October 12, 2008 Hankdad (MN, USA) I purchased a Zen V 4 GB In February, it has now died in October. So I have had 9 months of use for my money, all the time carrying a paper clip in my wallet to reset this buggy player. I would urge anyone considering buying this product to go to eBay and do a search for "Zen V as is", and then search under completed items to see all of the non-functioning Zens that are for sale for parts. I really did enjoy the Zen V when it was working properly (great for audio books except for Netlibrary's long files), but it's freezing problems and short life make it a poor value. It looks like there will be a Cowon D2 in my future, no more Creative.
