I got this for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves the game and has already played it more hours than is probably healthy - but it is Christmas vacation.

I didn't like being told where I had to build certain items and houses. I got a very restricted feeling from the game. I'm basically repairing things that were already there...as opposed to customizing and building up a blank kingdom to MY specifications...not someone elses. Maybe I don't want build steps where a lame Wii character tells me I need to build steps!
It would have been preferable if the King would have given me the wand and a completely blank kingdom from the get-go and said, "Build whatever and whenever you want...just make it look nice. And if some Wii character tells you to build something and you don't want to...tell them to screw off." Not build a rocket ship, steps, or house in specific locations because a Wii character told me to.
The beginning of the game is excruciatingly LAME. Especially the dialogue. You've got to prove yourself as the builder before you earn the wand. Are you serious? Really? It's such a waste of time. We already know you're getting the wand...let's just save an hour and start building. The tests you have to do are stupid and the whole time you're thinking, let me just start building already. I got this game to build, not take part in some stupid story involving a spoiled princess and a guy who just wants a toaster.
While the game was fun in some aspects (3 stars), I didn't give it five stars because there wasn't as much customization as I would have liked.
But if you can put up with the lame dialogue and story, deal with the limitations and specifications on building the game puts on you, and don't mind talking to wii characters who are in essence your boss (again they tell you what you need to build and where) you'll probably like it.

My 10-year-old daughter and I both loved the original My Sims (I actually "finished" the game with all 5 stars) This game is not just the same game with different pictures. The actual play is quite different. This game takes advantage of the wiimote, and you get to perform the actions of chopping wood, etc. (not just clicking).
The beginning is a little annoying,for someone who already knows My Sims, but probably a good tutorial for newbies. Some major differences:
* you don't have to go to your workshop to build things. It seemed like I spent most of my time going back and forth to the workshop in My Sims. This one, there is a simple 'switch' to go in building mode whenever, wherever.
* more control over actions. When you 'do something' to another sim, it's not just 'be nice' or 'be mean.' You actually choose what action you will do. I really liked this new feature.
* few options in the beginning, makes it great for new players. I remember being quite overwhelmed in the beginning of My Sims because the choices seemed endless. Here, you're given just a few choices to begin, and the farther you go in the game, the more choices you have.
* really cool pirate chic who hangs out with you and helps you. Of course, Buddy the Bellhop is still there, falling on his face.
Having completed the original My Sims, I'm looking forward to playing this game more.

I was a big fan of the first one so I didn't know what to expect from this sequel. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy the changes made and the new format. The gameplay seems faster and there is much more to explore and do. I am in my late 30s so I will say that this game is not just for young kids. If you enjoy Sims games, this won't disappoint. I find it easy to play and still a very enjoyable experience.
