Nice Monitor January 5, 2009 mkazzaz (Houston, TX) - Great looking monitor - PC graphics look great (using DVI) but it took me a lot of customization and color tweaking. Make sure your graphics card handles that high of a resolution since the 26" is pretty big. - It may seem too bright to you first or even the picture may seem washed out (or bluish); that's why tweaking is required to your liking. You can make it look great and sharp after the customizations using the monitor's menu and the software it comes with - HD looks pretty good but not great (using XBOX 360 with HDMI and HD Antenna with coax) - This is the best choice I found for PC-Monitor/HD-TV solution. Get this only if you want it for both usages. - Great size - Great set of features and many available connections - You can connect it to a stereo using the headphone (mini-plug) jack that is on the side of the monitor (wire will stick out just a little but no big deal). Otherwise, you can connect it using the optical (toslink aka SPDIF) output on the back of the monitor if your stereo is capable.. - Built-in speakers are so-so since they're very small but I don't use them anyway - DVDs (via PC) and Netflix Instant Watch look great
T260HD: Excellent Monitor, Very Good TV January 4, 2009 James E. Heiner (Homewood, IL) I have always been intrigued by "dual use" products, knowing full-well that some compromises must be made to serve two masters, rather than just the primary. Probably the same story here! I built a new PC in early December and needed a monitor to use while 'setting up' the new PC, so popped for the 260HD. As a PC monitor, it is close to the quality of my Dell 24-inch 2408WFP, certainly acceptable to good. The actual 25.5 screen seems noticeable larger than the Dell 24, which is "nice" but not necessarily 'essential'. I mean, rather than just move your EYES, you now have to TURN your HEAD!!! But it is quick, responsive, text is easy to read, and photos are brilliant. Overall, an Excellent monitor. It is now in the bedroom being used with Comcast digital TV. It works, looks very good, but I keep comparing it sub-consciously to my Samsung 61" DLP which is STUNNING when displaying a Hi-Def broadcast. I know that's unfair, so I still rate it as a very good TV. BEWARE: there is no provision on the back of the 'case' for WALL MOUNTING. At $500 on Amazon.com this is a deal!
Great display January 2, 2009 The Weez (Morristown, NJ United States) If your viewing distance is between 3 and 10 feet, this is the display for you. Picture is excellent with quick response for viewing live sports. It comes with the color set a little on the warm side, but the (limited) adjustment options are easy to use. Speakers are little better than internal PC speakers. If you're using this on a PC, you probably will use your PCs external speakers anyway. If you're using it as a standalone display, you will want to connect your cable box to a home theater system. I connected it to a spare 2.1 speaker system via the side headphone jack with great results. The only way to get around having the headphone plug stick out the side is to get a Toslink-equipped speaker system (expensive). Would recommend this display highly for a small room.
A surprise in a few ways - mostly good, some bad. January 1, 2009 Scott P. Moran (Colorado) First off I'll preface this by saying I've unknowingly been using a S-IPS (if you don't know, it's a monitor panel type with fantastic viewing angle and excellent color reproduction, but slower response time. Where as a TN display - which this monitor uses- has faster response time, generally larger sizes and is usually cheaper, but not so good viewing angles and comparatively worse color spectrum) for 3 years. When I bought it (Dell 2005FPW) I just thought it was a good deal because of coupons and good reviews. What I hadn't kept up with since then until the need arose for my new monitor was the different types of panels out there for monitors. Now I went to Bestbuy to check out the different monitors for a few minutes each a couple times while I was deliberating which to buy. I really fell in love with the Samsung's features and size for the price (size for price is one of the chief reasons for TN panel popularity). In the store when all TN's are next to each other you don't really notice the color unless you bring up a high quality photograph (which you generally can't because it's being fed a video from a source) or something similar. There's a reason these monitors are never running video loops of photographs, but are instead rolling action movies or bright text with colorful backgrounds. The video's are created to dance around the fact that the color spectrum is not great. The S-IPS is also great to use because of the viewing angle, slouching, sitting on a chair adjacent to the primary focal point, whatever the circumstance, the picture quality stays very near ideal viewing conditions in terms of shadows. I can not say the same about my new Samsung 25.5(not 26, apparently monitor companies have gotten back in the habit of misrepresenting monitor size) inch hdtv/monitor. When I have my second dell next to my new Samsung it's really quite depressing when I'm trying to perfectly tune the colors when you slowly realize, your display doesn't have as many colors it can display. Then add on the fact that I have to have the monitor slightly leaning over me so that the top of the screen doesn't discolor from my viewing angle. Which is kind of a mild claustrophobic feeling when combined with its massive size. OK, so that's the bad out of the way. If you have used or have a S-IPS or better display that you've been using, or still use in a duel monitor setup it will kind of skew your impressions of this monitor more so than if TN's are all you've ever used. Now the good. From those complaints, you'd think I'd give this a 3 star or lower. But the reality is I knew going in it wasn't going to be able to replace my dell in terms of viewing angle, the color I kind of expected, but not to the extent it turned out to be after extensive calibration. But I didn't buy this monitor to edit photos on, I bought it to replace my 19 inch 8 year old TV, as well as to play videos and games on. In those areas, which were more important to me that necessarily the dell strengths this monitor succeeds quite well. The 5 MS response time works quite well, I haven't noticed the little quirks that my 12ms (I believe it was actually 15, but dell advertises 12) display had in games. There's no getting around the fact that this monitor is massive, one of the biggest without going into graphics card destroying 30 inch monitor territory. The stand is functional, nothing really great liked being able to turn on its side for portrait mode. But it pivots enough for my setup and is sturdy, but not rock solid. The TV functionality is quite nice. This will be my first HD TV, so seeing the few HD channels my standard cable gets me has got me interested in a more expansive HD library. So Comcast can thank Samsung for that one. The remote works as advertised. It can change channels, volume, picture settings and input modes to switch between TV, PC, and in my case, game consoles. The bezel and styling is quite attractive with the touch of color and the muted color leaking out of the bottom right edge to indicate the monitor is on. I will say though that the bezels shiny finish also means there's a reflection of the border of the screen. Which can be distracting, seeing the mirror image of my cursor move across the top will take a little bit to get use to. Overall this is quality monitor, no dead pixels (thanks Amazon and Samsung) large viewing surface, nice features and good price. Just know what you are getting. Ask to look at non TN displays in your local Best Buy or other retailer. Load up some photos, then do the same upon request with this Samsung. See if it bothers you, if not, or if you're using this monitor for many of the same reasons I am I do recommend it highly. Just know what you're getting, and what you're missing out on.
Good display but with some design flaws December 29, 2008 jamesbond008 Pros: pretty good display, bright, acceptable viewing angle Cons: no height adjustment, poor power button design. I bought this Samsung T260HD because I need a big display that can display a 2-page document. The monitor did this job fine. However, I have 3 complaints: (1) There is NO height adjustment for the screen. It is very rare that the monitor will be at the perfect height on your desktop. I have to use the monitor for hours a day. The use of this monitor created neck pain. I have to buy a 3M monitor stand that allows me to change the height to my preferred eye level. (2) The "touch" power button on the lower right corner sensing statics on your finger is plain stupid. It requires a touch with your finger at the right area for the right length of time. It is not sensitive and makes turning the monitor on and off a chore. Can we have a simple power button that works? Hello??? (3) No VESA compliant holes at the back. You cannot use a VESA mounting device to add the height adjustment feature yourself. I therefore have to use the 3M monitor stand that only allows height adjustment by fixed increments. On the whole, it is a good monitor but spoiled by some stupid designs. Unless you can live with problems (1)-(3) above, you may look for something else.
