5 out of 5 stars Wow   January 6, 2009
John Davson (FL)
I bought this TV to replace my old 10-inch Sony analog on our kitchen counter. Wow, what a difference, the image is impressive. This is a very good HDTV for the price if you need something for a small to medium size room. The setup menu is clear and easy to use. The default factory settings for color, brightness, backlight, and contrast is excellent. Sound quality is good for a small to medium size room.

5 out of 5 stars Love this HDTVII   January 3, 2009

I love this TV. I did have a problem shifting the base to vertical for a couple of weeks, but once I hooked it up to the cable, WOW. The standard definition stations look almost as good as HDTV. The color on all of the stations is realy bright and sharp and intense. My TV enjoyment is 100 % better. The sound is OK for the price of the set. Highly recomened

5 out of 5 stars HD believer   January 1, 2009

I'm not much of a TV person and up until now have been happily watching 13-inch portables with indoor rabbit-ear antennas. Our local FOX affiliate switched early to all-digital signal so there was no doubt that the old set-up was done. I bought the Samsung LN19A450 used at warehouse_deals for less than $300 including expedited shipping. Right now I'm watching the Rose Parade in broadcast HD and WOW!! I am a believer!!

Tips: There is no such thing as a "digital" antenna. If you have decent broadcast reception to start with your old VHF/UHF antenna will work just fine with a digital TV. Don't buy a new antenna unless it's for retail therapy. However, do buy an inexpensive HDMI cable with any new digital TV here on Amazon, even if it won't work with your old DVD and/or VCR. You will only be out a couple of dollars at most. For me, in less than 24 hours I was hunting for a cheap upconverting DVD player and the local price of an HDMI cable is outrageous.

Analog broadcasts aren't nearly as clear as with my old TV but that's mostly a non-issue that should be completely gone in a few weeks. Welcome to the digital age!

5 out of 5 stars Would maybe get a larger one.   December 27, 2008

Works great. Take the TV out of the box, plug it in, edit the channels and you're ready to go. Great picture, just what I expected. Only regret is that we didn't get a slightly larger one.

1 out of 5 stars Not for broadcast reception   December 27, 2008

I bought this product to replace a perfectly good analog tv on our kitchen counter that will become junk in February 2009 thanks to the U.S. government. I specifically did not want to hook this Samsung to cable because there is no room on the counter for a cable box. But this Samsung tv turned out to have a terrible picture quality for over the air broadcast reception. I tried three different antennas with it, including a $58 powered model, and nothing worked. So this tv might be ok for use with cable or satellite (I didn't try so I have no idea) but it produces a really terrible picture if you try to use it with an antenna. I've already returned it to Amazon for a refund.
